HOW THE TTBO WORKS:

RANKS & TITLES
0 - 9 wins: AMATEUR
10 - 14 wins: CLUB FIGHTER
15 - 24 wins: JOURNEYMAN
25 - 34 wins: CONTENDER
35 - 49 wins: #1 CHALLENGER
50 - 69 wins: BELT HOLDER
70 + 99 wins: BOXING LEGEND
100 + wins: THE GREATEST

THE BADDEST MAN ON THE PLANET
The fighter with the best record after at least 60 or more wins is declared THE BADDEST MAN ON THE PLANET.

THE POUND FOR POUND KING
The fighter with the best win percentage after at least 35 or more wins is declared THE POUND FOR POUND KING.
If several fighters have the same WIN percentage, then the fighter with the most wins on his record will be ranked higher.
The WIN percentage is calculated as: (wins *100%) / (wins+losses).

IRON MIKE
The fighter with the best KO percentage after at least 35 or more wins is declared IRON MIKE, and will retain the nickname for as long as he/she keeps the best KO ratio.
If several fighters have the same KO percentage, then the fighter with the most KO's on his record will be ranked higher.
The KO percentage is calculated as: (ko's *100%) / wins

RISING STAR
The fighter with the best win percentage after at least 5 wins and at most 34 wins is declared RISING STAR.
If several fighters have the same WIN percentage, then the fighter with the most wins on his record will be ranked higher.
The WIN percentage is calculated as: (wins *100%) / (wins+losses).

KID DYNAMITE
The fighter with the best KO percentage after at least 5 wins and at most 34 wins is declared KID DYNAMITE.
If several fighters have the same KO percentage, then the fighter with the most KO's on his record will be ranked higher.
The KO percentage is calculated as: (ko's *100%) / wins

MOST IMPRESSIVE FIGHTER THIS WEEK
The fighter with the most correct picks in the week (and so scored the most TT-Points) is declared MOST IMPRESSIVE FIGHTER THIS WEEK.

THE UNDISPUTED LINEAR CHAMPION
If a title match occurs in a round then the winner of that showdown will be awarded "THE UNDISPUTED LINEAR CHAMPION" (more info about title matches available below).
"THE UNDISPUTED LINEAR CHAMPION" will be ranked number 1 at the top regardless of his record wins/losses/kos.

THE LONGEST REIGNER OF THE TTBO
The fighter with the highest defense streak (the most consecutive successful defenses) is declared THE LONGEST REIGNER OF THE TTBO.
If several fighters have the same amount of highest defense streak, then the fighter with the most titlematch-wins will get the title.
If the amount of titlematch-wins is also equal, then the fighter who has been champion the more often (eg 3-times champion over 2-times champion) will get the title.

Who gets the title-shot:
The winner of the "Undisputed Linear Champion"-title must face the winner of the 'Most impressive fighter this week'-title in a mandatory title-match.
If several players got the 'Most impressive fighter'-title then the player who is ranked higher will get the title-shot.
If only the champion got the 'Most impressive fighter'-title then he will be rewarded with an optional defense and can decide for himself which player from the top15 he wants to face in the title-match. With an optional defense the champion can also decide not to defend his title and instead to fight a non-title match (without the risk of losing his title). Winning a non-title match will not count as a successful title defense.

Title-match procedure and outcome:
In a title-match showdown the champion and challenger will have to play the TTBO round like they ordinarily would.
The person who gets the most TT-points wins the showdown (more info about TT-points available below). You can decide yourself which fights in the TTBO round you want to pick or ignore. If you pick more fights then you can score more points, but the risks you are taking will be bigger aswell (a wrong pick will result in one negative TT-point). If you pick less fights then you can score less points, but the risk on penalty-points will be less. At the end of the round the TT-points scored by the champion and the challenger over all their picked fights are compared (more info about TT-points available below).
If the champion has the better picks and so scores more TT-points in the showdown than the challenger then he will keep the 'Undisputed Linear Champion'-title and 'X-times Undisputed Champion'-rank, his record will be updated with one successful title-defense and he will be ranked nr 1 (the losing challenger will be ranked normally ordered by the amount of wins).
If the challenger has the better picks and so scores more TT-points in the next round than the champion then he will be rewarded the 'Undisputed Linear Champion'-title, his rank will be changed to 'X-times Undisputed Champion' and he will be ranked nr 1 (the losing former champion will get the rank 'Former X-times Undisputed Linear Champion' and will be ranked normally ordered by the amount of wins).

In case the champion and challenger score the same amount of TT-points in a title-match (they pick evenly) then the player with the most 'exact' picks (picks exactly identical to the end-result) wins. If they have even exact-picks or if the champion has more 'exact' picks then the champion will retain his "Undisputed Linear Champion"-title. If the challenger has more 'exact' picks then he will win the "Undisputed Linear Champion"-title.

If the challenger doesn't pick any fight in the title-match then the champion will retain his title by default and the champion will get a successful defense on his record.
If the champion however doesn't pick any fight in the title-match then the challenger will become the new champion by default.
If both the champion and challenger don't pick any fight, then the champion retains his title by default.

To keep the excitement in the title-match (and to avoid deliberate copying of picks) the picks of both the challenger and champion are hidden on the "View All Picks"-page.

TITLE DEFENSES
Once a fighter reaches the title of UNDISPUTED LINEAR CHAMPION, he will be able to have continuous title-match wins recorded as 'title defenses'. For instance, an UNDISPUTED LINEAR CHAMPION may win 5 title-matches/showdowns in a row, giving him/her 5 straight successful title defenses. If an UNDISPUTED LINEAR CHAMPION loses the showdown (and so his championship title), then he/she will have his title defense streak end and start over. Each fighter's best title defense streak will be recorded along with their total record, and fighter with the longest title defense streak will be displayed as such.
If an UNDISPUTED LINEAR CHAMPION has an optional defense and chooses to fight nobody then his title defense streak will not be updated regardless of the performance in the round.

RETIREMENT
If a fighter does not make a pick for 1 whole week (Sunday - Saturday) or longer, he/she will be noted as INACTIVE. This rank won't have further consequences. If a fighter participates in the TTBO for 10 or more fights and does not make a pick for 2 whole weeks, he/she will be considered & noted as RETIRED and will be stripped of his titles. A fighter may come out of retirement at any time, but MUST WIN 3 out of his/her next 5 fights, or he/she will be forced back into retirement by the TTBO for a length of 5 days, beginning the day that fighter lost his/her last fight. That fighter may then return to fight, and will be free of all restrictions once he/she wins 3 out of their first 5 fights back in the ring.

Additionally, an active boxer may be forced into retirement by the TTBO if he/she loses 10 straight fights in a row. That fighter may return to the ring by using the same process as stated above.

You only need to vote for one fight a week to stay out of retirement, so don't feel pressured into voting for each and every fight if you don't want to!

As of September 2007 the retirement action is also possible for fighters who participated for 5 or more fights. If a fighter participates in the TTBO for at least 5 fights and at most 9 fights and does not make a pick for 5 whole weeks, he/she will be considered & noted as RETIRED and will be stripped of his titles.

WINS & LOSSES
To win a fight, a fighter must predict correctly the outcome of a TTBO scheduled fight no later than the announced fight time. The fighter must choose which opponent they think will win, and must chose by either KO (knockout) or UD/SD (unanimous decision/split decision). If that fighter predicts the correct victor, he/she will be given one win to their total career fight record. If that fighter also predicts the correct means of victory (KO or UD/SD), his victory is noted as a KO to their total career fight record. However, if the fighter chooses the losing opponent, he/she will be given one loss to their total career fight record. As of yet, there will be no Draws recorded among TTBO fighter records. Predicting a round in when a fight will end is not necessary, as no credit is added for this.

TT-POINTS REWARD
With the automated TTBO a person will get 1 TT-point awarded for every 'win' he gained in the round (which is every correct prediction of the winner of a fight).
1 extra TT-point will be awarded for every 'KO' scored in the round (which is every correct prediction of the way of victory).
As penalty 1 TT-point will be taken away for every 'loss' suffered in the round (which is every incorrect prediction of the winner of a fight).
An ignored fight (a fight with no result picked) will not score you a TT-point but will also not deliver a penalty point.
The total score of TT-points is the outcome of the positive TT-points minus the penalty TT-points in a round (for example 4 - 2 = 2).
The points will be awarded/taken when the new ranking is made (at the end of the round when the change reports are made).

DRAWS/DISQUALIFICATIONS
If any fight results in a draw, no points will be rewarded for that match. If a fight ends by way of disqualification, those who predicted the non-disqualified fighter will be rewarded with a non-KO win on their total career fight record. Those who predicted the disqualified fighter will receive no marks--negative or positive upon their total career fight record.

Since the automated TTBO version a draw and no-contest can be picked as result. Those who correctly predicted a draw or no-contest will be rewarded with a non-KO win.

The total score of TT-points is the sum of the positive TT-points and the negative TT-points in a round.
The points will be awarded/taken when the new ranking is made (at the end of the round).

FIGHT CANCELLATIONS/OPPONENT CHANGES
If a fight is cancelled for any reason, then no points will be rewarded & all picks for that fight will be disregarded. If a fight for whatever reason happens to have a change in opponent after the original weekly schedule is posted, I will edit the schedule to the current fight card and do my best to make each TTBO fighter aware of this change within the thread. You may then re-announce your pick for the fight in a new post if you wish to. If a fighter fails to pick a winner of a fight that's switched opponents, he/she will receive no credit for that fight. It is unfortunate, especially for the lesser-at-stake fights that have tendencies to switch figthers even the night before the fight date, but this is the clearest & least difficult way to manage such occurrences. Be sure to check schedules frequently during the week to assure your picks are still valid!

PREDICTING A WINNER
With the new automated version picks aren't made anymore by posting prediction posts in the forum (repeat: the TTBO isn't played anymore with prediction posts in the forum).

Instead your pick must be chosen on the "TTBO Picks" page. This page can be reached by clicking here or by choosing "TTBO" from the site menu under "Community" or by choosing "TTBO" from the top navigation bar.

Example of the TTBO picks page:

Example of the pickpage upper part:

If a fight is scheduled then you should see something like this on the lower part:

(1) Here the pick deadline is shown (in ET timezone). If the deadline is reached then you will not be able to pick or change a result for this fight.

(2) Here the names of the fighters are displayed. Clicking on a name will open a new window to the boxrec.com page of this fighter.

(3) In this select list a pick can be chosen. The pick must be read from left to right. So in this case choosing "Wins by KO8" means that you're predicting Floyd to win by knockout in the eight round against Oscar (which is the same as Oscar losing by knockout in the eight round). So if you want to pick Oscar winning by split decision then you would have to pick from the list "Loses by Split Decision" (this will read from left to right "Floyd Loses by Split Decision to Oscar" which is the same as Oscar winning by Split Decision to Floyd).

If you don't want to predict a certain fight then you will have to choose "No Result Picked" from the list. Remember, there may be quite a few fights listed within the week, and predicting winners for all fights is NOT mandatory. However, the more fights you play, the more wins you could rack up to your total career fight record!

(4) After you set your picks you must store them by pressing the "Store these picks" button. This will bring you to a page that will confirm which picks have been stored.

After your picks are stored you can still change them anytime you change your mind (given the deadline for a fight isn't reached). Just go back to the pick page and you'll see the picks which you stored earlier. Now you can change your picks and store them again.

FIGHT SCHEDULE
Fights to pick will be taken from ESPN's boxing schedule found at: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?page=boxing/schedule/index .
Make sure to check the post or TTBO pick page containing the fight schedule frequently to make sure you don't miss out on a fight.
If you feel a certain fight is missing and should be included in the round then you can use the TTBO recommendations feature on the pickpage to send in your suggestion.

Remember, there may be quite a few fights listed within the week, and predicting winners for all fights is NOT mandatory. 1 fight a week is all you need to stay active. However, the more fights you play, the more wins you could rack up to your total career fight record!

NOTE
Edits and adjustments may be made depending on any issues the fighters have, or if any ideas come along that might make the TTBO a more exciting league!

It's never too late to join up, come one come all & test yourself among the fighters of the TTBO!!!
